Our 2018 objectives are nearly reached and we are pleased to give you some updates on what happened in 2018 so far.
Having been facinated by a coral nursery while we were diving with Michael Sherratt early last year, we have been in touch with Dr. Craig Dahlgren who explained us with enthusiasm the mechanism of the coral nurseries. We had the chance to participate to one of his expedition at Sandy Cay’s reserve in the Abacos and offer our diving experience to help them to install 3x nurseries
Again this year, BEP Foundation has been pleased to assist Friends of The Environment saving baby turtles. Early August this year, members of the network at FRIENDS saved some of the eggs and recreated a nest in a bin full of sand. Nearly all of the eggs hatched two weeks later and just under 40 hatchlings were realeased on their natal beach so they could find their way
Based on that, BEP Foundation shared this great experience and its concern about the gradual and imminent corals’ disappearance to Friends of The Environment who not only works on any environmental aspects but especially on children education which is the future. « Coral Project » has been developed to help increase the public’s understanding of the importance of healthy coral reefs. The lighthouse maintenance is still on. Inside restauration has been completed and looks great. We happily renewed our donation in order for the lighthouse to follows their objectives. Let’s keep the light on. More
BMMRO studies on mamals environment in the Abacos which should have been done early this year, has been temporarely stopped and will be postponed to next year.
