Abaco’s blue holes are cultural, historical and biological treasures. More research is constantly being done to increase our understanding of the importance of these ecosystems. Since the discovery of a fossil tortoise shell and a crocodile skull in Sawmill Sink in 2004, national and international attention has been brought to Abaco’s blue holes and caves. They were featured in the August 2010 issue of National Geographic Magazine. Those blue holes were officially declared part of the South Abaco Blue Holes National Park in August 2015!
