We ended the year with the annual Science Fair (November 15th, 2018) organised by Friends of the Environment. The theme was « Investigating and implementing ways to eliminate single-use plastics ». Again, this Science Fair has been a real success with the participation of the Environment Minister, Mr Romauld Ferreira, who was impressed by Science Fair Projects. Two years ago, a False Killer Whale was reported to have stranded on Duck Cay, off Cherokee Sound. BMMRO were quickly on the scene, and hoping to undertake the usual procedure of a necropsy, in which post-mortem samples are taken for analysis. However the poor creature was in an advancing state of decomposition, so only skin samples and photographs could be taken. [...]

Our 2018 objectives are nearly reached and we are pleased to give you some updates on what happened in 2018 so far.
Having been facinated by a coral nursery while we were diving with Michael Sherratt early last year, we have been in touch with Dr. Craig Dahlgren who explained us with enthusiasm the mechanism of the coral nurseries. We had the chance to participate to one of his expedition at Sandy Cay’s reserve in the Abacos and offer our diving experience to help them to install 3x nurseries [...]
Again this year, BEP Foundation has been pleased to assist Friends of The Environment saving baby turtles. Early August this year, members of the network at FRIENDS saved some of the eggs and recreated a nest in a bin full of sand. Nearly all of the eggs hatched two weeks later and just under 40 hatchlings were realeased on their natal beach so they could find their way [...]
Based on that, BEP Foundation shared this great experience and its concern about the gradual and imminent corals’ disappearance to Friends of The Environment who not only works on any environmental aspects but especially on children education which is the future. « Coral Project » has been developed to help increase the public’s understanding of the importance of healthy coral reefs.
